The story of fashion
The First Clothes
Thousands of years ago, people learned to make clothing from natural resources around them. Clothing was vital for protection from wind, sun, snow, and ice. Animal skins and hair, plants, grasses and tree bark were some of the materials used for clothing.
The first clothes were very simple. The daily tasks of providing food, shelter, and clothing did not leave much time to decorate and embellish clothes for every day wear.
Ancient people adapted different techniques to hold their skins together, or make grasses or tree bark one large piece. Thus sewing and weaving became “invented”. The beginning of what we consider crude clothing construction then, has evolved over the ages to make what is manufactured and produced today.
